WASHINGTON (CNN) – Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump is under new scrutiny because he has made some controversial comments disparaging Muslims.

He has said the Muslim-American community in the U.S. should apologize for being unfairly targeted. And he suggested that Muslims should not be allowed to build mosques in the U.S.

In response to the comments, the U.S. Muslim Council issued a statement saying, the U.S. Congress needs to fully address these issues to address those who believe that the U.S. cannot be a welcoming place for American Muslims.

Trump has previously suggested that Muslims should apologize. Last week, he said, I really love your people.

Trump has been criticized for saying Muslims should build schools for the lowest IQ and for making it an argument to allow more Syrian refugees to enter the U.S.

And to allow so many innocent people to be drawn in through the door is a disgrace to our country, to our values and our country and I mean it, Sen. Jeff Flake told CNN.

A spokesman for the Muslim Council told CNN the statement was based on Trump’s comments.

While it is true that the president is trying to make a policy statement based on personal attacks on Muslims, his remarks about the Muslim community
