A federal judge Monday ruled that Donald Trump Jr. must stop helping Moscow interfere with the election that could determine whether Hillary Clinton becomes president.

Judge Richard Leon in Washington made his ruling in a 5-4 decision over whether Trump did or did not know that his campaign emails, which are in some manner back to back hacked from Russian state-owned organizations, are subject to the law’s restrictions on disclosures under the Freedom of Information Act.

Leon cited two cases, for example, in which he said that WikiLeaks, a Russian-based think tank, must first hand information on emails it obtained and then return those to the party’s servers, and then apply that information to the public for further analysis.

Leon also declined to rule on whether Trump himself may be able to change public statements in political emails that are subject to the law, which Leon described as a limited right because of how the Trump campaign uses them.

Leon said he disagreed with the court’s conclusion that Trump can change his statements. The United States Constitution provides, in pertinent part, that the people have a right to know what has been said, he wrote. It must be clear that Mr. Trump can change those statements and any such change, even during the course of an election campaign, is not permitted by law.
