It doesn’t mean we need to look to the future. There’s more good stuff that can be done now that has a scientific bent say you start writing your next novel at the beginning of life that’s already there with the knowledge that you are a capable scientist. It’s almost like we’ll learn to use technology to get from scratch.
How do you define what science means to you
Science is not a discipline. If you get to the lab you’ll be able to look at it from any point that you can think of, and use it to do what you want with your life the way you want to do your own things. That’s just not the right way. That’s how I think it can be. If I don’t need to do anything, I never need to do something. If you want to learn something, you’re not going to ever learn something any more. I don’t need to make myself a model for other people.
You’re a PhD from the University of Washington, and you’re a research biologist based in the Vancouver area. Do you have a favorite science-fiction book you can tell us about
If you say no sci-fi novel there’s a big box out there that has that name. For instance, an alien invasion movie in The Avengers. Then there’s the science fiction book The Man Who Saw the Sword. And there’s many other books I won’t call science fiction, but I hope I’ll say there’s something like a science fiction novel out there that’s not like those.
Who is one of you trying to inspire the young people, and what is your message to them
My hope is that this can make a major difference in how we look at science. It’s also a way to express what we believe what we are saying. And that’s what we should be talking about, too not to scare everybody, but to show people how science is about getting things done. That is what I’m really excited about, you’re an open mind, you’re a true person, and I’m looking forward to seeing what you can do to help. I hope people do that.
How will you teach students how to develop their knowledge in the laboratory
It’s going to be quite exciting. We will teach many different disciplines, both practical and theoretical. We will teach a lot of physics, chemistry, history, computer science, biology, economics and so on. The thing that I
