Are people getting more immigrants each day or is there a small difference Is it because more people speak the same language or do they work differently The answers have to be more nuanced than this, because when people talk about the United States and how they got here, it doesn’t have the same answers as how those other parts of the world do it. They might be talking about immigration particularly Muslims, who make up only about 9 percent of the world’s population. It’s not surprising that there is a lot of disagreement We don’t really discuss immigration policy in this presidential election. We can talk a lot about people coming to this country if they want to. People can decide. But not if they want to vote, though.

Here are some other things I’d like to make clearer I think President Barack Obama’s approach to immigration and immigration policy may be working to win, but he could not even get past a majority vote on the House floor in 2010. A majority vote would be enough.

Trump does not have the votes. The question still is whether Obama, who was the most powerful national figure in that campaign and won the White House a third of the time in the last election, has taken the necessary steps to stop immigration and is not ready for it anymore. The answer to that is clear, and that’s precisely what Republicans need to do to convince the American people, on both sides of the aisle, that they have the courage to stand with President Trump.

On Friday, Democrats will present to the House the best and most comprehensive plan for making Washington work, and they’re going to give each House member more than enough information and time to gather support. The Senate will debate legislation based on the most comprehensive proposal. So while the White House won’t be making decisions about Trump, it won’t simply be moving the president forward on policy. House Republicans will be responsible for those issues.

Let me reiterate Republicans will be working to make the nation’s immigration priorities work, not for the first time. The White House will be committed to making those priorities happen. It’s clear that Trump is not the right person for president. I’ve met with the people involved with Trump’s transition team on the campaign trail to make sure everything is in place and our jobs are here. I hope the American people will get one of them in 2017. Let’s get America back together.
