An Israeli military helicopter dropped a bomb on Jerusalem on Monday evening, killing two civilians, security sources told the Palestinian Ma’an news agency. The attack near the village of Karsh, the main crossing for Israel’s Jewish population, occurred just before two buses traveling from Tel Aviv and the Israeli capital arrived at the junction of the Eiffel Tower and Jerusalem International Airport. The attack happened shortly after about 1030 p.m. (530 a.m. local time) as the buses were en route from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Palestinian officials have claimed the explosion caused a large number of casualties, including three children.

Israeli forces have confirmed that civilians were killed in the attack. Israeli news outlets reported two explosions, one targeting a tank, one targeting vehicles, and a strike killed 17 children and women.

The Israeli military statement added that it is a terrorist attack, saying that no civilians have been harmed in the attack. IDF forces are also conducting an investigation into the incident, according to the Palestinian press agency Ma’an.

Israeli air strikes over Gaza have resulted in the death and injury of about 300 Palestinians in Gaza. Approximately 4,000 Palestinians are living in the Gaza Strip at the time of Sunday’s attack, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross. Around 100 Palestinian suicide bombers have attacked Israel since the attack.

The latest incident occurred just before 1130 a.m. local time, during the same morning of the attack. The Palestinian security agency Quds Force said in an online statement that four rockets landed during the strike and the bomb was not a real-time weapon. The statement did not elaborate on the origin of the rockets.
