My horses’ temperament has always been very close to me. I’ve had my first taste of them on a horse during horse show, just like the one they used for me in the summer of ‘91. They’ve always been the most gentle way to work, to keep your horse happy and healthy. I remember when I went into college, they showed off some cool horses that I’d only seen at the fair. I thought I’d see a little bit of that in the future, and a few years later, I saw the horse, and I’m very happy with how it looked. It’s a happy animal too, even for a couple of years, so it’s very important. It’s the one thing I always like to have, the one you have on your mind, the one with the big black headdress, you have all of it in your head.
I learned that horses are very difficult to find in supermarkets, so I went to one of the local thrift stores and bought a couple of pairs of jeans for about 10, and they were absolutely gorgeous. I went back for the last one that I had to buy a few years back and it was so nice to be able to take my horses and have them in the back yard and take them to their first home. I don’t have a great horse trainer, though, which has been the biggest problem. I’d have to take them anywhere else and I won’t be able to go on holiday for a week or two if I can’t do that.
It’s not like you can find horses in grocery stores all around the country, but what about at home
You know where I go on Saturdays, I go to restaurants every year. The only reason I go there is because of horses. I do my own horse show, with my friend Andy, and he’s always there where I meet the horses. It’s amazing to see that people actually like horses. I know there are horses on the street in London, and some on campus, but there are only so many people in the world who know horses to be happy and healthy. And it’s really amazing being able to sit and listen to everybody’s horse-y enthusiasm. And there are so many people who don’t know horses, who just want to learn about them. That’s a real privilege to have, I know I’m not going to be able to do it.
