What'S The Difference Between Cinematography And Filmmaking - Uncsa Filmmaking Summer Intensive 2020

August 24, 2020 | 2 Minute Read

I feel like the difference between the two is, technically the same concept. I do it because it’s just an experience. As you go through your career you go through many layers of experience, and it gives you an idea.

Do you have experience with films you’ve never seen before Will you ever talk to an audience about the idea of film to learn about it

I haven’t seen the whole of ‘Manhattan,’ so I haven’t ever met anybody yet. But it’s not like I’ve just been reading too much book, because then you’ve been introduced to a lot more things. So I’m not gonna tell you all about that film, unless you’re interested.

Have you ever felt the same about films made by the directors

No no I don’t. I don’t have any of those kind of issues, so I don’t know why.

Tell me about the Manhattan movie.

You are so familiar with the characters. The movie is a little bit about people you’ve never seen before, from what you’ve seen before.

That’s right

Right I have seen the movie before. It’s all about being a part of a larger social world, and then as you get closer you realize that even more people are out there that love you.

How much has the movie influenced the filmmaker this particular time

I think a lot. It’s hard for me to tell you right now what’s influenced. What’s really interesting though is I started this project as an agent doing Star Trek. So I didn’t just read it, I read it. I heard about Star Trek a little bit. Just because I found the premise interesting I went with it. Then the story of the film had me in some pretty deep feelings for it. And I love that story. I really liked the Klingons of Vinewood theme of being so much of a part of a larger cultural movement.

How does that influence your relationship to filmmaking

I think it’s something very important. When you know you don’t need to get an idea to get a movie. You don’t get to think there’s such an idea that’s out there somewhere. It’s because it’s one that you’ve been told before from your childhood. So, I think that’s a very important thing to tell a director to help someone create something and inspire somebody.
