What'S The Difference Between Cinematography And Filmmaking - Making A Short Film - Start To Finish
In that vein, I would describe the difference as the difference between being a cinematographer and not. In both categories, your job is to use the technology so you can create a sense of control and feel like you can use anything.
I’ve never found myself in a situation where the cinematographer has to decide what he’s going to do with something. There must be something in the camera I’m going to try to use. But ultimately the cinematographer has to take the time to decide what’s going to be used and then how it fits in the world. There’s not always an answer to each question. There are moments when the film’s been shot but they’re not necessary.
What’s your most challenging creative process
I’ve done many things with a few films. One is a very short film, which I’ve come to love to its fullest. I had a job where I asked a few different directors what they thought the scene was going to look like. I ended up with a film with 30 minute cinematography that was pretty standard fare, but the director said, It’s a big deal to use these technology. In the past, it wasn’t so difficult to make a movie. But in the past, you have to create the camera angle and then then use lighting to make your characters look. The most important thing is the editing. You can edit the shot a bit too much.
How much of a challenge is making it as short as possible
My biggest challenge is putting the scenes together. I love not working on the same sequence for nearly 20 minutes or so because all the actors are so much different because of the time and how many of them have different jobs so there is no one job to go off and do each scene.
What gives filmmaking its unique edge
When you make a project, you have an idea of what it might look like, what kinds of objects it might be moving, and what the effects might be of that. It can take a while, but it’s never too late. We have this thing called The Picture Book with 20 minutes of video, with the cameras on, we have this thing called the film, and that takes a while too. As we develop that, you do things differently. There are only a small amount of sequences that go well by itself. As we begin to build out more of the effects, there will be more opportunities to do more.
