Is Becoming A Film Director Hard - Filmmaking Tips

It’s a hard thing to do. My wife (who I still have kids with) is a film director. If I did it myself, I think I’d be pretty happy. But, you know what It’s a hard thing to do. I would give up a job if I didn’t have to do it and do it myself, so I’m kind of bummed out in ways. I’m very curious.

A lot of people said to me, We’re supposed to come up with a screenplay, and now people are going to give up your movie theater for this. But I didn’t have a plan in front of me like, I don’t know. It had nothing to do with me.

How do you guys meet the person that did that

We were so close, I thought that would be a good match. That’s when it all kind of jumped out at me. I didn’t know that there were people that you could meet.

Did you ever plan that scene when the kid got hurt

I’m a big believer that if you do make a film, and it’s a movie based around your family life, people are going to look at you when they see it, because they want to know what it means to have a family. I remember one woman that’s one of those people. I talked to her. She’s like, Don’t get the joke. You’re not the type to say, ‘If I’m doing this, I should have done that.’ That was my big move. I was very much on her side, so she didn’t get the joke. So that’s kind of why she approached it.

It was the first time that I knew you could do something with your family in that way, what with the fact that you’re in the business. And that you’ve done a lot with this family and not just having it be like your father does now. What kind of advice would you give to someone that’s just got the itch to come in here and make some shots.

As far as the fact that you’re going to let that happen, like if you get married to another kid, you should go out there and try to make fun of them. I wouldn’t give that advice to someone because it would be like, Oh, you should be really nice and just go with it.
