How Long Does It Take To Learn Filmmaking - Filmaker
The film industry has been around for years, so I’ve had some experiences of making films, but those were all experiences I just never learned. Even though I do film for free, it really wasn’t as exciting. So I went on hiatus from doing film in 2013, so that’s where I met John Droner and I went to Hollywood to learn from people like Peter Jackson, James Dean, and Tom Cruise. But I had no experience doing film in the past 15 years, so maybe what I learned over the years was I learned a lot about filmmaking.
What is your take on a film that you see from outside the industry
I grew up on a small business, I never really tried to do a film I didn’t want to make. I remember going to The Bachelorette and asking myself if I wanted some kind of filmmaking education. I mean, I was just young and not looking for a career in filmmaking, I always ended up doing what I wanted to do.
Where do you think you came from before working within the industry
From that early in my career, I knew the world was a lot more different in terms of how good people were, and I worked and lived for very long because I always loved working in the studio. My dad was from a factory that we worked for, so he would have worked at it too, so I always had friends in the world and some friends in Hollywood who worked there.
You mentioned earlier that at the end of the day, you’re trying to go out in Hollywood, you’re making movies, it just seems like you always want to escape the world. Did that happen for you once, or if so, what you’re talking about now How was that experience different for you personally
I definitely felt different the second time when I went to California. It was more of a lifestyle for me. I’m looking into my future, so I was like, Wow, I’ve made more films since then than I can have done before. It wasn’t like when I was in China or South America and stuff like that. So the other thing I just kind of realized was, that I’m just going to get away from it for a while.
Do you have any advice about the big screen, how you can take advantage of it for a different kind of experience
There’s something to it, I think. So if you ever get hit, it’s going to be a
