How Do You Become A Filmmaker - How To Make A Short Film In One Day
My first two hours of shooting were in New York, where you see your kids playing a few times a day. I spent quite a bit of time in LA. I’ve been really lucky. My first three days I had a very clear idea what they were like and the characters they created. You are going to get a lot of attention from your audience on a first come first serve basis. So to my ears and to myself, my first project is very creative and very personal. They have an important responsibility to the story, they’re trying to make it a great experience for all. But I also like the way I interact and feel as I watch what they do when they say Go, get your camera You’ve made a phenomenal experience and then the rest will follow quickly.
You were always very focused on making a movie about people. Did you focus solely on that aspect of your films, or did you have to focus more specifically on it as your career progressed
I had been trying to think about how to handle the fact that I don’t want to get into that. It’s a very personal aspect of my life.
And as a filmmaker, you may spend a lot of time looking at how you make films of any kind Is it because they’re all based off each other or are you watching for inspiration or is this a side project
Because ultimately it is not me. I don’t know if I’m being a filmmaker or a character or a character artist. I am an artist. What I did in terms of my filmmaking process was do what I was told, but I didn’t choose to learn it.
With people, they say that a lot. The truth of the matter is that people often don’t know what they’re supposed to like. They go and do a lot of work in the dark because they don’t know what they’re supposed to like. And a lot of things you are supposed to care about in a film are not necessarily the things you want to talk about, because you may not want to hear them. I like to go the darker route. I go into that feeling in the most different way, and the result is that I find what I can in the film more interesting. And then I just go into it more deeply. I want the director to tell something interesting.
So for you to try and get into something that feels like an inspiration, in that particular way, is a pretty risky thing to do.
