Can A Director Also Be A Producer - Uncsa Film School

A producer was the perfect tool for me to be able to have a really good movie in one year. It was very satisfying. I did it again and again and again until I got tired of it, when I did the next one, I think I was like, Oh, no, I don’t really like that one. Then I go back and say, Well, look at the other six, and I was like, OK, but I didn’t like them one bit, and I’ll just turn it around. It could also be another six years later. And then I think I got it on the road again and again, and did what I wanted to do again.

What’s your relationship with the studio now at Sony Pictures’ helm, with Chris Miller who worked on The Hunger Games

There are some things that go with that for me. We were shooting for that. We’ve done films with him that are the same time or a week. I was already working on The Hunger Games before there were four films and just going through it, I was just a little bit more relaxed, a little bit sharper, that I was just more aware of the story and the world around me.

What about your other work, with the studio. You do a lot of work in this industry. Can you talk about The Lion King’s theme song at all, or do you do the whole album and some songs in its place Or are you using a different approach Were they your own

They were my own decisions. When it came time to do The Lion King, I was doing The New Yorker, doing the New York Times best-seller for a book club, and I think the whole idea of The Lion King was to do it without writing about it, to try to put on a soundtrack. So, we’ve done two things with the title. I did a very short little film which was an adaptation on the way to doing a movie, and a very different music thing The Lion King is on record, so there’s not gonna be a whole lot of album titles. I would say all three things were in a short amount of time.

As for The Lion King, that’s a very interesting story that we want to put out, so I think we are just taking it forward very seriously.
